Blade Runner's notoriety came much later I feel. It wasn't appreciated in its time (even by Ridley Scott until recently). I was gonna write a post about Blade Runner, after seeing the remaster, but forgot to. Great sci-fi isn't actually about science or technology... I'd also put Gattaca up for a Best Picture.
