Lessig’s Change Congress Keynote

His focus has improved dramatically since is first “beta” version of his keynote. I think this effort is moving in the right direction and I’m going to go and check how many people from congress they’ve managed to pledge.

I think the first “chorus” (if you will) is too temperamental to rally around, but I completely agree with the second.

family albums

I uploaded some of my parents pictures (since they weren’t about to do it themselves =) These aren’t my photos, but deserves some exposure, none the less.

ken and angela

First set is from Ken & Angel’s AIDS Ride from SF to LA. A really impressive feat, and I’m really tempted to train for it next year.

anne, jake & jamari

Second set is the family trip to Hawaii over the 4th of July, which unfortunately we couldn’t tag along. Ann & I missed out on two opportunities to vacation in Hawaii this summer, and we’re severely bummed about it. We’re still holding out hope we can head somewhere before Ann heads back to school, but we’re playing it by ear.

My parents are also starting on their retirement/sabbatical trip in a few weeks. They’re going to start a blog on it, so we’ll see how good they are about keeping it up to date =)

running ’round today

wolfi

Pretty amazing that two weeks on the iPhone is still so scarce. We strolled by the Apple store in PA around noon and it was already sold out for the day (they apparently handed out claim tickets to avoid having a long line). I don’t have the patience to do more than just walk into a store and pick one up. My guess is it will probably be another two weeks before the supply meets up with the demand.

Gave Wolfi a bath today — he’s a fairly good sport about it, but you can tell it’s not one of his favorite things in the world. He’s really shaggy now… the earliest grooming appointment we could make isn’t for another two weeks. Poor guy gets really hot on warm days like today. We’re heading up to Orinda for my dad and stepmom’s retirement/sabbatical party. Hopefully we can keep him cool… I very much doubt he’s much of a pool dog.

oh the irony

definition of irony

Most of the major efforts have appeared to die down — It looks like things might go off without much of a protest. But I guess we’ll see.

I highly recommend you check out this link. Some of the new buildings juxtaposed with the ancient and industrial, it looks like something out of a science fiction metropolis!

still in my head

Its curtains for you Dr. Horrible… Lacy, gently wafting curtains…

pocket video

I didn’t jump at the Flip Mino because when you get down to it, the quality is still VGA @ 30fps — basically not much more than you’re standard web cam. Yes, it was nice and tiny and more importantly, cheap. But it still didn’t pop out. You can now get MiniDV or hard drive based high definition camcorders now at somewhat reasonable prices, but still steep.

This August, Kodak is releasing their Zi6, which might finially tip the scales. For $180 you get HD video recording (720p @ 30/60fps) in the size of a Flip Mino. Its uses SD Media cards for storage which are now reasonably priced for very large sizes. Also, since the cards are very small, you are basically only limited by battery life. And an even bigger plus is that it uses AA batteries! (which I already have a bunch of high capacity rechargeables).

I haven’t seen anything else on the market that approaches these features for the size and price. We’ll see how the reviews are and some same videos, but this could very well be the top of my Christmas list. Kodak has had a tough time coming up with a niche in the post-film world. This could be a very good first successful step.

cleaning ‘ouse

So I’m changing thinks up a bit… I turned off the twitter digests. Felt a little overkill. Put a new theme up. I need to be a little better on some quality posts…

fireworks

I was hoping to track down an iPhone tomorrow — I’m hoping that it won’t be too difficult.
